Select Brands I've Worked With
Innovation Approach
After working in innovation consulting for over seven years, I have developed a design approach for rapid idea validation. They key is to understand the opportunity at the intersection of business viability, customer desirability and technical feasibility. This cross-functional approach allows for teams to rapidly prototype ideas and get them to market quickly for actual validation and iteration.
Leadership Approach
Designing the best experience for teams and employees
I have been a fierce advocate for women in business and tech with a proven track record of growing and developing all kinds of talent, especially high-performing and junior talent.
My approach is heavily rooted in applying the same principles of great user-centered experience design and design thinking methods to unlock insights and:
Coach talent though challenges
Uncover passions and ideal career paths
Build objective, targeted and actionable growth and development plans
Assist high-performing talent in evolving into other areas of expertise
Develop personal brands
Educate on business strategy, research and ux skills
Form high-performing collaborative teams
Support working mothers
Smarter Job Descriptions
Great job descriptions not only give employees responsibilities but should also detail key skills and levels of mastery. I have amended job descriptions with a skills description and even a visualization to help an individual understand what's need, evaluate that against their own impressions and also compare against 360 feedback. Using a spider chart format, you can map skills for jobs across different levels.
T-Shaped Teams
I'm a firm believer in T-shaped people and that it is a pretty positive way to view the cross-discipline skills that are needed in todays' digital jobs. As one progresses in their career, added skills in facilitation and leadership are needed, so I draw that at the top of the below diagram as a reminder that anyone can work on those skills and be constantly growing in them even while working on other more functional skills.
The order of the skills in this chart is meant to show related skills. When forming a team to tackle a digital problem, its not modern or efficient to have giant teams. Instead of thinking that you need 8 people to do the main set of skills, consider working with 2-4 people who have a deep expertise in one area and some mastery of related areas. I've found that a core team could consist of just three people, a Product Manager, UX Designer and Visual Designer. When the product strategist have business skills as well as maybe some information architecture or strategy, that can pair well with a UX Designer who might be able to do the research, some Strategy and think about content. Add a Visual Designer with some knowledge of front-end skills and can not only design but help create the prototype is a great additional core team member.
